Hate Crime Support
Description
A hate incident is any incident which may or may not constitute a criminal offence – perceived by the victim or any other person, as being motivated by prejudice or hate. A hate crime is when the incident does constitute a criminal offence.
Hate crime/incidents can affect different people in different ways; this project will provide tailored support to each individual with the hope of overcoming the incident. This service aims to provide free and confidential support to those that have been a victim of a hate crime/incident. Any individual who has been affected by a hate crime is entitled to support, regardless of whether it has been reported to the police or not.
Our Hate Crime Worker will provide each person with non-judgemental, practical and emotional support to help anyone overcome and recover from hate crime/incidents.
Services that we provide include, but are not limited to:
- Practical Support – Creating personal safety plans,
- Emotional Support – talking about the incident (if wanted) and improving confidence to aide recovery
- Advocacy with the Police Service
- Support through the Criminal Justice System (where necessary)
- Referral to other appropriate service (where necessary)
