About the programme
FIT Blackpool is a free, 10 week healthy lifestyle programme that combines discussion led workshops with physical activity.
Sessions run weekly for 90 minutes and are open to anyone between the ages of 18 and 25 with a BMI of 25 or above.
The first part of the session is discussion led. All participants receive a workbook which covers the different discussion topics each week which vary from nutrition, barriers to a healthy lifestyle, benefits of physical activity, alcohol, how to read food labels and packaging as well as many more. The second half of the session is then physical activity, which is circuit style training.
What to expect
The first session people attend we record height, weight, waist and blood pressure and everyone completes a lifestyle questionnaire and then we repeat in the final week then everyone has a comparison from start to finish.
Everyone also receives a pedometer to track steps and once they have created a baseline in the first week we set goals each week to increase their step count.
The physical activity starts in week 2 and begins with an introduction to exercise and progresses in intensity as the weeks go on.
Completion will require participants to attend a minimum of 8 out of the 10 sessions and complete final measurements and questionnaire.
Follow up
We also follow up with reviews at 3,6 and 12 months as well as running maintenance physical activity sessions weekly for those that complete the 12 weeks.
