What is the Local Offer?

A Local Offer gives children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities and their families information about what support services the local authority think will be available in their local area.

The Local Offer is split into directory categories, these appear on the right hand side of the page. To view services click onto the relevant category.

If you come across some information that is out of date or inaccurate, or you can’t find some information you were looking for, just let us know and we will investigate it and make amendments.

Who is it for?

The Local Offer is for parents and carers of children and young people with SEND, as well as the young people themselves.

It is also a resource that individuals, groups or organisations can draw on in the work that they do in supporting children, young people and their families, by highlighting other resources, services or guidance that may be accessed.

How does it help me?

The Local Offer makes it easier to find out what you need to know and when you need to know it, so you’re less reliant on other people or word of mouth suggestions.

The Local Offer identifies your nearest and most suitable services, it also gives you the opportunity to provide feedback to Blackpool Council.

The information available contains information and links to organisations which may help you.

Problems with accessing the Local Offer?

The Local Offer can be accessed through computers at your local library, your own computer or your mobile phone.

Should you be aware of someone struggling to access the Local Offer through technology, please contact us and we will arrange to send out advice and information through the post.

Local Offer Consultation Group - You Said: We Did

The Local Offer Consultation Group is a group of people who represent:

Parents, young people, early years, SEND, Health and charities who are motivated with continually improving the Local Offer for families in Blackpool.

The Group meet on a regular basis to consult and review the Local Offer.

July 2019 Meeting - The group consulted about the look and content of the Local Offer website.  As a result of that, we have started the process of developing a new visual for the Local Offer to help with navigation.  We also agreed to improve and review the information on pages within the website.

During August 2019 - The group did not meet during the summer months, but work has continued on improving the website content and clarity of communicating the messages on the site.

September 2019 Meeting - The group met to agree a new front page, which will be launched shortly.  The group also talked about the importance of improving the communication to parents and young people using social media.  We are endeavouring to respond to that and will provide an update on social media shortly.

Thank you to the Parent's Forum for their invite to talk to them and listen to feedback about the Local Offer.  Updates are happening on an ongoing basis.  We are also now on facebook again.  Thank you.

October's meeting reviewed the marketing materials for the Local Offer and the new look front page of the web site.  Great to see some new faces at this meeting.

Thank you to the Parents' Forum for organising the day at Blackpool Zoo on October 23rd.  We used the opportunity to collect information from parents, young people and young children to collect information about what people think about how information is shared in Blackpool currently.  We will discuss these results at the next Local Offer meeting.

January 31st 2020 - the parents helped give feedback on Blackpool Council documents, including a new SEND booklet.  We listened to your comments and have produced a SEND booklet in clear simple language which explains the whole of the SEND service to parents and SENCo's.

Wednesday 11th March 2020 - The Parents Forum (with help from Blackpool Council) organised an event for parents on 11th March to explain and introduce services across Blackpool that might help and be of interest for parents with SEND in their family.  The event was well attended - the feedback from the event will be discussed at the next Local Offer Consultation Group meeting.
