The Planning Record

The Children Act 1989 requires each local authority in England & Wales to develop & maintain a 'register' of children with a disability.

The record is computer-based containing personal information about the child/young person. This includes their name, address, carer details, main diagnosis & services being received.

The 5 main aims are:

  • To provide statistical information to help plan services for Children with a Disability
  • To provide statistical information to inform local & national research
  • To assist in the development of appropriate adult services
  • To provide details for a mailing list so that families may be sent relevent local & national information
  • To share information, with the parent/carers consent, with other practitioners involved in the child's care.
