Anchorsholme Primary School was opened in 1967 and is in a pleasant residential area to the north of Blackpool. The school caters for children between the ages of four and eleven years and there are currently approximately 620 pupils on roll. The teaching areas have been so arranged that the infant and junior departments are integrated yet are still able to maintain their own special identity within a modern primary school. A purpose built early year's unit, housing three classrooms, was built in 1999 and a five-classroom KS2 extension was completed in October 2001.
Facilities within the school are excellent with each of the twenty-one classrooms having its own practical area, sink and storage space. Toilet and cloakroom facilities are provided for each class base.
The school is fortunate to have two assembly halls, an ICT suite, a multi-purpose training room, a purpose built library, a reading room, a drama and audio visual aid room, a medical room, a curriculum resource area, and a print room.
Gardens surround the main building and a greenhouse is sited close to the schoolhouse. A corner of the grounds has been developed as an outside classroom and conservation area to support various curriculum projects. The children are also responsible for a large produce growing area. There are extensive hard and grass play areas within the school environment.
Everyone in the school is encouraged to develop to his or her full academic and creative potential and to think, question, discuss and evaluate.
We provide a safe, happy and caring environment where every child matters and has equal opportunity.
The school promotes personal and social development. Everyone is encouraged to join in a wide variety of experiences in addition to those associated with the classroom. The pursuit of ideals and qualities such as enthusiasm is encouraged.
Co-operation and care for others is fostered. Everyone is encouraged to explore his or her responsibilities at home, at school and in the local and global environment.
The school is staffed and resourced with this in mind and the curriculum is planned to offer the widest possible range of opportunities. Constructive parental involvement in the life of the school is encouraged and all parents are welcome to contact and to visit the school as they wish.
